First, the overall numbers: As of today (17th November 2019) there are around 1.73 billion websites (source: Total number of Websites).
We took scan data from all 1.73 billion websites to analyze which content management software (and hence website builder software) runs on each web server and here are the results:
As you can see, the Wordpress platform is overwhelmingly the msot popular Content Management System (CMS) on the web today. The top two entries are for Wordpress.com and Wordpress.org; for those not familiar with the difference, with WordPress.org, you host your own website and install the Wordpress software on it and with Wordpress.com they host Wordpress for you instead so it's the easiest solution to get started with.
The third entry on the list, WooCommerce is also part of the Wordpress platform as it's the most popular Wordpress theme and is used for eCommerce purposes so in fact the top 3 entries ALL represent Wordpress in some shape or form.
Overall, this means that WordPress holds an incredible 70% market share for content management systems on websites with a known CMS. Here's how that market share looks overall:
